The Protocols of the Elders of Zion was a very very weird text that has an even weirder backstory. Not only do we not know the truth of who, what, or how, we also don’t even know why it was written. There are many ways that we don’t know if it could be true or could be. There are so many rumors of stealing and plagiarism of other texts that are basically the same things. The main texts that were plagiarized was The Dialogs in Hell, this has direct quotes in it that also appear in the Elders. The Elders initially was published in a Russian newspaper in the early 20th century. The alternate beginnings of these texts are the secret Jewish group that met in Switzerland in 1890-ish. The thought for this beginning is that this was the original meeting minutes, and this text was the plan for taking over the world (as all the plans were made believe). Many people still believe that this is a true minute from a real conference that Jewish people wanted to take over the world and this is how it started. Alongside the internet creating its own stipulations of what happened it helped lead to yet another rise of antisemitism that this text has started. Considering it took until the 1940’s to have someone be prosecuted and be called fraud it’s no surprise that so many people believe and believed that this was true.
