The Turner Diaries

I read the Turner Diaries, and it is a novel written by white supremacist William Luther Pierce and Andrew Macdonald. The book was published in 1978 and presents a fictional account of a race war in the United States. The main character is Earl Turner and he is the leader of a group of white supremacists. They are in a violent revolution against the government and their enemies are the white race. We talked about in class how this book was linked to the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, which I found to be devastating. I defitely believe this along with most of the other books we have read in this class are frowned upon by the public, this book especially. The novel is an awful depiction of a future in which white supremacists take over the United States and carry out on a mission of genocide. This is mostly against non-whites, Jews, and other enemies of the white race. The book glorifies violence and portrays the killing of non-whites as heroic and necessary for the survival of the white race. It promotes a worldview that is based on white supremacy, anti-Semitism, and hatred of minority groups. This book to me seems as though it might attract a following on the internet of the white supremacists. It promotes violence and hatred in the worst possible ways I believe and I don’t think this one should be on the internet. I would no doubt never recommend this book to anyone and feel that this one might be the worst book we have read this year.

SCUM Manifesto

I read the SCUM Manifesto, and it is a text written by Valerie Solanas in 1967. The manifesto is known for its confrontational and bad language, talking abiout the elimination of men and talking about how they want to have an all female society. Solanas argues that men are the root cause of all social problems and that women are oppressed and reduced to a lesser role in society. She believes that the only solution to this problem is for the extinction of the males in society. She advocates for women to seize power and overthrow the existing power structures that have been created and sustained by men. It sounds to me that it was very controversial because it proposes a violent and extreme solution to gender inequality. I defenitely think the text has been disagreed on by alot of people and most of the world disagrees with it. Despite the criticism, I bet the SCUM Manifesto has definitely been influential towards some more extreme feminists. It really emphasis on women’s freedom has encouraged many women to assert their rights and demand equal treatment. Overall, the SCUM Manifesto is definitely controversial. I don’t think I would recommend or give another read to it later in life.

Maus Background Information

Maus Volume 1 is a graphic novel written by Art Spiegelman, published in 1986. The novel tells the story of a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust named Vladek Spiegelman, the father of the author. It talks about his experiences during the World War II in Nazi-occupied Poland. The novel is different in it depiction of the Holocaust, because it uses animal characters to represent the different groups involved in the conflict. The Jews are depicted a mouse, the Germans as cats, and the Polish are depicted as pigs. The novel is split into two parts, with the first part primarily focusing on Vladek’s experiences before and during the war, while the second part deals with the author’s relationship with his father and the struggles of growing up as the child of a Holocaust survivor. The first part of the novel is a story about the horrors of the Holocaust. The graphic novel format allows the reader to see the images and how it plays out through the pictures. Spiegelman’s use of the animals adds an additional layer to the novel. By representing the different groups involved in the conflict as animals, Spiegelman’s use of animals also emphasizes how and lets the reader how the Germans were not seeing the Jews as actual humans. Maus Volume 1 is a graphic novel, and I don’t really see those a lot in writing, so I thought it was really good and I could come back to this writing at a different time because I enjoyed it.

Maus Volume 1

Maus Volume 1 is a graphic novel written by Art Spiegelman, published in 1986. The novel tells the story of a Jewish survivor of the Holocaust named Vladek Spiegelman, the father of the author, and his experiences during the World War II in Nazi occupied Poland. The novel is different and unlike anything I have seen on in its depiction of the Holocaust. It uses animal characters to represent the different groups involved in the conflict. Jews are depicted as mice, Germans as cats, and Poles as pigs. The novel is split into two parts, with the first part primarily focusing on Vladek’s experiences before and during the war, while the second part deals with the author’s relationship with his father. It talks about the struggles of growing up as the child of a Holocaust survivor. The first part of the novel tells a very good parts of the horrors of the Holocaust. They are very different, and I was impressed with the writing. Vladek’s story is a very personal, and the graphic novel allows the reader to feel as if they are experiencing his experiences firsthand. Spiegelman’s use of animals adds an additional layer of meaning to the novel. By representing the different groups involved in the conflict as animals, Spiegelman is able to explore the ways of human behavior in a way that would not be possible with human characters. I also thought the use of animals also is a good portal of how the Jews were not treated like people, but rather like wild animals. I found Maus Volume 1 to be one of the better books that we have been asked to read for this class, and I would recommend for others to read it.

Protocols of Zion

I read the “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” today. In a nutshell, the book explains how they discuss how they need gold. It also explains how the Goyim are inferior to them, and how they must be controlled because of their stupidity. It also says that they are not equal to them in the first and second protocols. The main takeaway I got from it was that the Jews are plotting to rule the world and will eliminate all non-Jews, often known as Goyim. These procedures were designed to incite hatred of Jews. The third discusses how human rights are unreal and how communism is beneficial. The fourth protocol discusses the need to eradicate religion and God. The topic of the fifth was monopolies. The sixth chapter dealt with slavery. The seventh discussed the necessity of both police and war. The 8th deals with expelling Jews from the administration. Making Jewish superstates and obliterating Christian youth are the goals of the ninth. The liberalization and world dominance discussed in the tenth protocol. The goyim are described as sheep in verse 11. After that it is primarily about the press and freedom. Next it talks about misleading the Goyim covertly. The chapter fourteen prohibition of Christ. The topic of fifteens is forming hidden groups. In verse sixteen, freedom is abolished. Seventeens is all about getting rid of the clergy. Making people fear the government is the theme of Eighteenth. Goyim are being made into livestock in chapter nineteen. The central theme chapter twenty is about how devastation and depression. I found this reading not interesting to me and I definitely do not recommend to anyone else to read.

Abstract Paper

Who killed Nicloe Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman?

The former college and professional football star O.J. Simpson was trialed for the murder of his ex-wife and her friend. The O.J. Simpson trial remains one of the most infamous criminal trials this country has seen. Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were stabbed to death on the night of June 12, 1992, outside of her home in Los Angeles. Obviously, O.J. became the main suspect of this murder. 5 days after the murder incident, Simpson hid in the back of his car holding a gun to his head while his friend was driving. Officers followed the vehicle for more than an hour until he finally surrendered at his home in Brentwood, California, where he was arrested. The trial started 2 and a half years later after Simpson pleaded not guilty the past Summer. The Los Angeles district attorney’s office focused on the couple’s domestic violence prior to the murders, while Simpson’s defense team focused on evidence and racism within the case. Each source I have found explains a different part of the trial, such as Nicole’s relationship to the other victim, Ronald Goldman, and the perspective of the first officer that reported to the scene of the crime, and how the officer testified in court. More of the sources I have found talk about Nicole’s police reports prior to her death, even stating that she believes she is being stalked and that her husband is going to kill her. Using the sources, I have gathered now, and in the future, I will form my own opinions taking all the evidence into account.

Anarchist’s Cookbook

In short, “The Anarchist’s Cookbook by William Powell is about explosives, drugs, and weapons. William Powell first wrote this instructional book as a teenager in 1971 to protest against how much the United States was involved in the Vietnam War. He had always planned on being a writer, but when he attempted to be drafted into the Vietnam War, there was only the political side of writing left to focus on. Powell came up with “recipes” made into a “cookbook” on how to make flammable handheld weapons and LSD. There were also instructions on how to operate firearms and how to attack different kinds of groundworks. Powell’s main goal of this writing was to teach the general population how to organize against fascists, capitalist, and communist threats. He believed that violence was by all means acceptable if that is what it takes to see political change. Although this author tried very hard to destroy his cookbook when he became older, it was already sent off to a publisher who would not budge. He could not compete with copyright and publishing laws. This was not what I expected this reading to be about. I found this reading interesting and abnormal at the same time. When you see the word “cookbook,” you obviously think about food first. The fact that this book is banned in Australia and used as evidence in cases of terrorism in the United Kingdom should speak for itself. I find it so bizarre that the writings of this book came from someone my age. This leads me to think that not much of this information can be that accurate. It was even later found that a few of the explosives he was describing did not even exist. Perhaps he just dreamed of them. Overall, this reading was unexpected and strange. I would not consider this to be an informative piece of writing, but it is worth a read for yourself.

Contexts of Mein Kampf

Mein Kampf was published July 18, 1925, written by the Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler himself. I didn’t enjoy reading it and thought it was way too long and not very interesting to me. The Mein Kampf introduction is about how he got the beliefs that he had about the Jewish religion. it was also about how the book is still being used today, which is hard to believe seeing the horrific things that Hitler did in his time as Nazi leader. In the reading it I saw that it was about what he had planned out for Germany in the future and where we wanted to take his power. I kind of find it hard to believe that this book is still aloud to be published and sold throughout the world. I think this because I think that someone can read this book and agree with what he is saying and his actions and try and replicate what his vision was. The writer of the introduction D.C Watt explains that we must use this book and see how Hitler was able to accomplish what he did by putting fear into his followers and getting them to follow him as if he knew a god and the greatest leader known to exist. He also says that we need to use this to make sure that this never happens again. Volume one of Mein Kampf was published July 18, 1925, and volume 2 was published in 1927.

Contexts of the Original Story of Bambi

Bambi, a Life in the Woods was written in 1923 by Felix Salten. This book is different from the movie because it is about how Bambi himself came to overcome not having a mother and grew to live old and alone all his life. The movie is about Bambi being alone then finding the prince stag who turned out to be his dad, then falling in love with Faline. I feel that the original book is about Felix Salten and kind of how he portrayed his life growing up Jewish. I feel it was about how even though he didn’t lose his mother early on like Bambi did, it is about how others suffered during those times. Salten grew up in Austria at the times of the rise of the Nazi party. Even though Felix himself didn’t go through all the terrible things that happened to the Jews during these times, he understood what was happening and the obstacles that they had to overcome. Some of the similarities between the 2 are that not everyone is going to survive. it is better to not get attached to people for this reason because once they do eventually die it will be easier if you didn’t know them. You can see this when Bambi distances himself from his love Faline, because he doesn’t want to be so close to her just for her to be taken away like his mother was. Another one is that the deer felt helpless against the “humans”. I think this is referring to Hitler himself and how the Jewish felt against him, and that one of the only ways to get away and survive him, was to run. The last one I want to talk about is Bambi’s friend Gobo. Gobo was found after he was collapsed and then raised and cared for by the hunter who had found him. Gobo later returns to be with the rest of the deer. A couple weeks after this Gobo is shot and killed after he approached him thinking that all the hunters would be his friend because the one took him in. This one relates to the Jewish who were told by the Nazi party that if you tell us where other Jewish families were, they will leave you alone. This was false and instead, when they arrived to take the Jewish families that they snitched on, instead they took both families. I enjoyed this reading and felt it was very interesting making the connections from this to the book to the holocaust and seeing how many similarities there are.

The Original Story of Bambi

I enjoyed reading this different take on the story of Bambi, and how it very much it is different and has a darker feel than the Disney one we all knew growing up. I feel this book is telling us about how things can be perfect and amazing and beautiful life can be, but in an instant it can all be taken away and changed very quickly. The first chapters are about Bambi and his mom, and her teaching him the ways to live and experience life. At first, he is so excited, and he feels life is so beautiful but overtime it starts to set and he gets just a glimmer of how dangerous life can be too. The next part of the book is focusing on Bambi taking on life alone and becoming more distant from his mother as she is letting him become his own. This is the part where Bambi is in the meadows, and he first encounters the danger and he gets a rifle pointed at him. At this point he turns and runs away as fast as he can, at this time he doesn’t find his mother and never finds her because she had gotten shot. While he is learning to live on his own, he finds another deer who is alone which he was known as the Old Prince. The prince takes Bambi under his wing and is a mentor to him on how he should go about living and most importantly surviving. The next thing that happens is that Bambi avoids the deer he loves because of how scared he is of losing her just like he lost his mother. At the end of the book, the prince had wandered off and died so Bambi steps up into his role and lived as the new Prince of the deer. I really enjoyed reading this book and felt I prefer this more than the Disney version because of how much more realistic it was.

Gospal of Mary Reading

I found this reading remarkably interesting. The most interesting thing to me was that the Gospel of Mary disappeared for over fifteen hundred years, with the first six pages being lost in addition to four pages in the middle of works. The Gospel rejected Jesus’ suffering and death as a path to eternal life, exposed the view that Mary of Magdala was a prostitute, prevents the most straightforward and convincing in any Christian writing for women’s leadership, and offered utopian view of religion. Our picture of this story will always be partial because we have lost the beginning of the story. We do not have a full Gospel to fall back on. The way we found the writings was such a small event. The owner did not even know he had them. The writings spent that much time in a wall niche. There was no way the writing could be in such good condition while living in the open air. The book was then purchased and sent to a European museum and examined. The Egyptian Christians are assumed to be the ones who were able to translate the Gospel. The writings turned out to be fifth-century papyrus codex. This was made by cutting papyrus rolls into sheets, which were then stacked and sewn together. The writing turned out to be 152 pages and placed inside a leather cover. The actual Gospel of Mary was short, only took up the first 18% of the book. The writing was found along the Nile in lower Egypt. It is now housed in the Ashmolean Library of Oxford, since it was published in 1983 by P.J. Parsons.
