This text is comprised of made-up conspiracy theories about the Jewish ‘plan of worldwide domination’. This text was published in Russia in the 19th century and a lot of the antisemitism within this text is still around even now, in 2024. I think this text was used as a sick kind of rationale in the 19th century for antisemitism, and the ideas, as fake as they are, are still spread around today. This text details the accounts of a secret group of Jewish people meeting, talking about their plan for worldwide domination. They talk about government control, raising taxes, general control of money. These theories are harmful theories that still impact the Jewish community to this day. I think in a generally Christian society this text was used to fear-monger citizens so they would be scared of people different than them and generally used as a tactic to keep the Christian population under control because they were worried about the ‘attacks on Christianity’. There are also lots of mentions of ruling through violence, on page 1 of the text it states, ‘therefore in governing the world the best results are obtained by means of violence and intimidation, and not by academic discussion’. This is kind of ironic because this whole text is basically a rationale for people to be violent and intimidate the Jewish community. I think if somebody actually did their research and talked to a Jewish person, they would see that this text is complete nonsense and was created in a time of ongoing fear about the state of the world to create an outlet to blame their problems on. That being said I think it is really important that we continue to study these texts and learn about them so that we can have discussions about why this is wrong and bringing awareness to groups who have long been discriminated against.
