Chapters 1-3 and Chapters 10-15 in Volume 2

The first three chapters of Mein Kampf start off with an introduction into Hitler’s youth. Hitler’s father wanted him to follow in his footsteps and become a public servant just like he did. However, Hitler wanted to pursue his passion for painting and creating art instead. Unfortunately due to his lack of actual skill in art, he was rejected from the school which ultimately will lead to significant events later in his life. He also tried applying to architectural school but was also ultimately unsuccessful due to his lack of academic credentials. After that Hitler went to Vienna and was extremely poor and mainly sold art and took odd jobs, it is here where Hitler started to gather his more extremist thoughts. He especially looked up to the racist rhetoric of the Vienna Major Karl Luegur. The chapters that I was assigned to read were Volume 2 Chapters 10-15. He heavily empathizes with the use of propaganda and believes that it is one of the most important departments in any form of government. He used many forms of propaganda over the span of the Nazi Regime including making a ministry for propaganda. In chapter 12 he also addressed the concerns of the viability of trade unions. Hitler believed that they could not be done away with because of their importance. He also examines Germany’s relationship with Russia in chapter 14. In the chapter, it is also expressed that Germany must become a world power in order to fight back against its enemies. Overall, the text felt very repetitive to me. It was very unprofessional in the way it was structured. It felt that Hitler was just over dramatizing as well as glorifying his own childhood.
