Berwick’s European Declaration of Independence 2083 is a hot mess of a book. Berwick himself was crazy and Islamophobic to a degree where he would kill those that so much as tolerated Muslims. But the composition of the book shows that of deep ignorance. It is over 1500 pages, for starters, and was distributed by email. It isn’t clear whether he expected everyone to read 1500 pages or if he was just copy-pasting from various radical right sources he found. He also plagiarized most of it, he didn’t even have the sense to write his own 1500+ page manifesto. It was quite a lot of plagiarism and it probably goes to show that the sources he included in the manifesto is only a small fraction of like-minded content out on the internet.

Something that stuck out to me is that this person was from Norway. This is odd because normally Scandinavia has very mild views and is fairly agreeable on most aspects of its government, from an outsider’s perspective of course. Another odd occurrence regarding the manifesto is that the author, when he was tried for the Norway bombings, did not recognize the legitimacy of the court, and therefore refused to appeal. This, along with certain passages in his book, implies a deep hatred for the Norwegian government that runs deeper than Islamophobia.
