Anarchist Cookbook written by William Powell in 1971 is a book full of schematics for bombs, drugs, weapons, and all illicit things in between. the first sentence in the foreword is “This book is for the people of the United States of America.” this goes on to say that the book was not intended for fringe groups or militias as they already have access to this in formation but rather everyday people who are to protect themselves against fascists, communists, and capitalists. Beside the wordy intro that lays out most of Powells philosophy on the subject of anarchy, this book is dense with explanations for the topic at hand, and crudely drawn schematics for all tools of the anarchy. The first chapter covers all manner of drugs including a breakdown of weed and the different types that existed of the time. This section was interesting as it seemed to break the conventions of typical anarchy, in favor for radical hippie ideals. To Powell, the description o f hipped would not be far off as he described Anarchy to be free, nature loving, and all accepting. As the book progresses the tools of the movement begin to manifest themselves in more devious tactics. The following sections including lethal, non-lethal, and other forms of combat. Each section is a wordy mess With limited descriptions and more of a 19 year olds fantasy of a child of the 60s, rather than a planned out blueprint of the revolution. The book was a compilation of information you’d find in days of research in the public library and other texts that are passed around. arguably the worst of all the sections is the explosives chapters. These explosive devices were explained using long descriptions that almost never seemed to capture the schematic itself but rather the idea of the explosive at hand. It was more like a general guidebook to explain in theory how these devices would work. overall this book was shitty to put in bluntly, interesting and full of context of the era it was written in but shitty.
