So, I did not read this book at all.  With me being Catholic, its actually against my faith to read a book with such graphic content.  I still wanted to participate in the class discussion though, so I decided to read around the text and research about the book itself.

I first looked up the author, the Marquis de Sade, and read up on his life, just to get a general idea of what the book would most likely contain in terms of ideals.  After a quick Wikipedia skim, I realized that this atrocious and poor excuse for a man was extremely messed up in the head and had many curious fetishes.  The numerous sex scandals he was a part of during his life can attribute to this.  One of the only things I liked about this was the layout and analyzing the style de Sade used to write it.  The way he detailed the events that happened each day almost seemed like an itinerary and they were very thought out.  Of course, this could not make up for the content of the book in any way. Although during the discussion, it seemed like I wasn’t missing much.
