If you have read all my blogposts about religious-based text, movies, or sources, you would know that I am a Christian. Everything in this class that is about Christianity is easy for me to understand. I have grown up being a Christianity and living my life for God. I understand scripture very well. Because of this, I find jokes making fun of Christians (to an extent) hilarious. With that being said, there will be jokes that I do not understand because I lack knowledge of that culture or religion. For example, my class just read the novel called Satanic Verses. Although some people in the class found it entertaining, I found the book very boring and confusing.

This novel incorporates the Muslim religion and magical realism to create a satirical novel. However, I was not the novel’s intended audience. The novel is directed more toward Muslims. Due to a different target audience, it is more difficult for me to understand the novel. The chance of me understanding Salman Rushdie’s, the author’s, novel is slim to none. However, the class still required me to read the book, so I gave it my best effort. Unfortunately, it was still too hard to understand most of. This book taught lesson: Christianity is not the only religion that is openly laughed at.
