Mein Kampf was originally published in two different volumes in 1925 and 1927, and it was written while Hitler was imprisoned. By 1939 over 5 million copies of Mein Kampf had been sold and it had been translated into 11 different languages. It was obviously very popular in Germany because of Hitler’s violent nationalism towards Germany and very popular during the Nazi regime of Germany. It appealed to the German people because it gave an outlet, the Jewish people, to blame Germany’s shortcomings on. It was also required reading in schools at one point in Germany and bought for newly-weds from the government. In Mein Kampf Hitler talks about his hatred towards non-Aryans and his favor towards the ‘master race’, it just shares his racist ideologies with a splash of his life also included which has been said to be overexaggerated. The writing itself is also not great, Hitler tends to ramble on and there are a lot of grammatical errors. After World War 2, Germany law banned the selling of the book and all other books promoting Nazi views, however this did not stop the book from being published in other places and some people in Germany still owned copies of the book. The effect this text has had on hatred towards Jewish people is still prominent in some communities. Nowadays Mein Kampf is still popular with white supremacists and Neo-Nazis. People still hold hatred for Jewish people and blame them for things that simply are not true. This text was a hateful piece, and I think it is important to see how this effected so many lives, back then and even today and how we can make sure history does not repeat itself.
