A large component of Hitler’s discussion of antisemitism and antisemetic global conspiracies could be seen as being ripped directly from protocols of the Elders of Zion. The ideas in that text were ripped from other texts and general discussions of Jewish-Masonic conspiracies. The ideas surrounding race and Aryans can be traced back to racial “science” of the time and the ideas concerning some sort of Aryan ancestry containing a more inherent value than other races can be traced back to Vril, the Thulean society, and the Berlin Society. Overall, Hitler took every popular component of other texts he could to formulate a pro german populist conspiracy giving him full validity in the face of a dastardly conniving enemy that was responsible for all of Germany’s economic and societal ills. It is also important to note that the book made Hitler millions dollars adjusted for inflation. Given his need to campaign and establish himself politically it makes sense that this aided him greatly. The more extreme components in the book were disregarded later in 1933 once he gained the position of Chancellor. It is interesting how he uses political ideas to gain a following and then dismisses the more ridiculous of those ideas when he needs to get taken seriously. Although any comparison to hitler in the modern day is a severe insult the far right could be seen as doing the same in their more extreme political posturing on nicher podcasts compared to their direct comments to press. From what I have read reception of the book from academics of the time was grim, recognizing his inability to be concise in political ramblings. Some of the notes in the 1941 edition even recognize the ridiculous level of bigotry Hitler is establishing, which considering the general public opinions of the time goes to show how extreme Hitler’s visible anger towards Jewish People was in Mein Kampf.
