The Satanic Verses written by Salman Rushdie in 1988, this book was quite the controversial book when created. Rushdie was born in India But then moved to England which was most of the reason why this book is controversial. Since Rushdie was raised Muslim; he had a identity crisis, and his opinions on that religion was in a novel “Satanic Verses.” Questioning the religion in itself was something that riled up the Muslim community. A year later after the “Satanic Verses” Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini issued a fatwa which is a legal opinion to kill the author. Being an Apostate has the punishment of death and since Rushdie was raise Muslim but talks of slander to the Muslim Religion. England helped Rushdie to go into hiding, which caused the British Government and Iran fight over this one man.
