I plan to write about radical feminism and the relationship between radical feminism and the S.C.U.M. Manifesto written by Valerie Solanas. I want to explore and analyze how radical feminism was impacted by the writing of the S.C.U.M. manifesto and research how feminism changed in the 1960s and 1970s. Specifically, I want to look at feminism before the 1960s and compare and analyze it to the feminism that emerged after the 1960s. I want to explore the different assets of feminism, like how radical feminists were perceived, what type of people supported the movement and who didn’t support it, and the types of people included in this feminist movement. I also want to discuss and explore the exclusion of different groups such as some members of the LGBTQ+ community and people of color.

The way I want to structure this research paper is by giving background information on the actual movement of radical feminism and what came before, what inspired the radical feminist movement. Then I want to discuss important primary source literature written during the 1960s and 1970s, like S.C.U.M. Manifesto. Once I explore the relationship between feminism pre-1960 and post-1960 I will compare the two and analyze the change. I want to use some primary sources like newspapers, or magazines to see how radical feminists were portrayed in the media. I also want to compare different feminist literature written in this time period with the S.C.U.M. Manifesto and analyze the common themes. Then I want to look at how LGBTQ+ people and people of color were talked about or about how they were excluded and not talked about during this movement. To conclude I will summarize my analyses and my final thoughts about the radical feminist movement in the 1960s and 1970s.
