This movie was a rough one to watch – I could only imagine living through it and being told that it never happened. That’s one thing I do not understand, how are these people who are missing brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, all their families said that this never happened? How do we allow for people to get away with this? How do we not have prison time for the people who did this? I just have so many questions. But here’s some of the facts I know, there was a Muslim majority in the country and the Christians where the minority and they were the ones being prosecuted. There have been many different massacres that focused on different groups of Christians, for example women and children, men, people in power, and people who were revolting so they could be treated as equals. One story we heard about during the movie was the story of a young girl who killed herself because she was raped by a guard and couldn’t bear to live her life because she believed she lost her innocence and betrayed her family, as if she was able to make that choice. I think that story helps further show just how much was taken from the Armenians, and how much keeps being taken from them. The most profound thing I got from this movie was all the questions that came with it. I do not understand how people can just move on and not acknowledge this happened, I don’t know how groups just let this happen, I don’t know how we allow it to keep happening.
