This text was extremely difficult to read not because I did not understand it but because it made me angry. I was assigned chapters 10 through 12 so I will focus on those. In chapter 10 Hitler is speaking about what he believes caused the downfall of Germany in World War l. He casts blame towards the rise of Marxism and the decline of national pride. Chapter 10 did not pique my interest as it seemed like he was just ranting. However, chapter 11 is really what got my blood boiling. Titled “Nation and Race” chapter 11 is what I believe to encompass Hitler’s main ideology. He speaks about how the Aryan race must stay clean and pure. He suggests that being with/procreating with any other race makes the preparator less than or unclean. Hitler states, “The stronger must dominate and not blend with the weaker, thus sacrificing his own greatness.” He believes that Aryan’s “mingling” with a “lower” race will be the end of cultured people. He then goes on to bring the Jewish people into the conversation. He begins to bash them, their religion, and their views. After rambling for a couple paragraphs Hitler brings it back to the Aryan race being all high and mighty. Hitler says, “If we were to divide mankind into three groups, the founders of culture, the bearers of culture, the destroyers of culture, only the Aryan could be considered as the representative of the first group. From him originate the foundations and walls of all human creation, and only the outward form and color are determined by the changing traits of character of the various peoples.” This quote really encapsulates the majority of the chapter. Hitler also claims that many cultures owe their origin to the Aryan race and/or Germany. For example, he specifically mentions how Japan’s culture was heavily influenced by Germany. Which is laughable because that is not the case at all. Overall, Mein Kampf was an infuriating read and I am glad that I will not have to read it again.
