There is so much to say about Marquis de Sade. He is such an exuberant man that I wish he used his talents to write something beneficial for the people he was surrounded by. I mean speaking in truth, he isn’t a bad writer, and there where so many things at this time that I feel he could’ve written about that could’ve saved and made him an amazing person (at this time). As we have learned is was a confused person in politics, he constantly was swinging from party to party and idea to idea, and during the time of the revolution that could’ve been amazing. One of my favorite ideas that came out of 120 days of sodom was the idea that his whole book was written satirically to make fun of and ridicule the upper class. He, sadly, didn’t write this book as a satire so I can’t make these claims as reality but pretending he did is the option I will be taking with this. He has four main characters, the Duc, the Bishop, the Presidente and (Banker)Durcet. Each of these characters we can see reflected into his own life trauma. The Duc was a reflection of his uncle, the one he was sent to live with after issues with his father. The bishop reminds him of his Jesuit school he went to. Which by some account we know to have been abusive (both sexually and physically) to the young boys. The Presidente is a reminder of his mother-in-law, who has the title Presidente. She is the reason he was imprisoned many of his times he did go to jail. And Durcet, well he was a banker and im sure de Sade has had many a fight with them.
