What I got off the jump from a modest proposal was that Smith seems like just hates woman that don’t conform to what they want women to do for them. He wants women to act in a traditional way like cooking, cleaning for a man, and listening, and respecting men. He also seems like he believes in a certain way of life, social order. We already heard what he thinks women should do, then he goes on about how children should act. He goes on talking about how by a certain age children should be acting as adults, making food for friends and family and serving others. He seems to not like where he lives and how the people act. He brings up beggars multiple times in the text and that leads me to believe they are a fairly poor area in the world at the time this was published. I also believe this because in the text on page 5 Smith says, “They are everyday dying, and rotting, by cold and famine, and filth and vermin”. They’re living in terrible conditions and the people haven’t done anything to save themselves. He basically is saying that his people don’t know how to function without someone telling them what to do and even then they are in really bad conditions they need to get out of. No one, except Smith, seems to have the motivation to get themselves out of such a terrible situation. He wrote this to give his people a way to get out. things and actions they can do or take to help themselves grow economically. The people need to come together and get rid of the higher ups to truly get somewhere in life instead of staying poor and miserable. He is disgusted with how unmotivated and comfortable his people are. The proposal is basically just a list of things to make there area of living better.
