To be honest I think I enjoyed reading about how the text was found. The story behind where it was found and uncovered is something I would go by myself and look up more information about it. It just leaves so many questions about where the rest of the pages of the Gospel went, and who has them or what they said, was it ever really important, and most importantly would it change the way we looked at the text? Reading about mother Mary when I would go to church a lot must’ve paid off because when I read the actual text about this Mary made me realize that they were really just trying to make her look bad. I don’t think they wanted to have another Mary that was super close to Jesus or maybe they just didn’t want another important woman in general. The disciples didn’t like that Jesus was telling a woman more than them so I think they just discredited her and made her seem like this terrible woman who prostituted herself, made her seem untrustworthy or like an unreliable source. Men still do the same thing to this day. Always pointing out how you can’t trust a woman for whatever reason there is, especially when they want to do big things or become important people or close to power. they were threatened by her in my opinion, because why would, at that time, the most important power figure tell a “prostitute” more about what’s to come over the men who have been right by his side. I wouldn’t say I necessarily enjoyed reading the text but I did like interpreting it in my own way that made sense to me, I also liked hearing about everyones different points of view so then I could go back and look more into certain things. I say keep this as a starter for class because it shows how the same thing can mean different things or you can see it in different lights.
