I liked reading the Gospel of Judas more than Mary of Magdala. For me personally it was easier to read, and I felt I could understand it more. What I got from it was humans are proven to sin in all kinds of ways. Judas’s problem and favorite sin was pridefulness. They (disciples) think they’re good enough to be the perfect human. The only problem there is humans are always going to be sinful so no way ever could we be perfect. There’s a reason why people say the expression, “I’m only human”, quite literally referring to them making mistakes constantly and there’s no expectation for us to be perfect. It’s just not possible. They constantly believe they can make it Jesus’s status of perfection, which is just unattainable. They even feel like they should be able to go with Jesus to the “holy generation”. This upsets Jesus and further allows him to make a point about why they will never to be able to join him in such endeavorers. The disciples just show how conceited and prideful they truly are. Jesus then explains to Judas specifically that no mortal will ever be able to enter the house, because they aren’t and never will be holy enough to do so. My favorite part of this text was reading about the underworld and the rulers they had. Jesus explaining to Judas where certain angels come from was a very intimate moment between them where I feel as if they were both vulnerable and even let their guard down a tad. It was nice for things to be set in such a beautiful scene talking about the clouds and the different entities that from it. It was kind of relatable like when your with your friends looking at the stars and just talking about life. It was nice to see Jesus as not such a higher up compared to Judas, like he’s still the teacher but it gave us that mortality feeling.
