Just like the previous text before, I had a difficult time feeling interested in this text. It’s just not anything I would personally read on my own time or enjoy. With that being said, I did try my hardest to think deeply when trying to understand this text. It felt like there were a lot of lines missing and who knows what was said in those lines, they could’ve completely changed the text for me. Here’s what I found interesting:

At the beginning of The Gospel of Judas, it says how Jesus appeared on earth performing miracles and great wonders, but it also says he doesn’t appear as himself to people. Instead, he was found among them as a child. I could be misunderstanding the way it’s expressed but it feels like he’s further submitted the idea that the disciples will never be deserving enough to experience such greatness. There is a mood to this text where it feels that Jesus almost feels superior to everyone, that he is this holier than thou being. There are a couple of parts in the text that makes it feel like he’s mocking Judas and the other disciples. He says no one from this generation will ever be worthy enough to reach the place that they are seeing in their visions. He tells Judas that he tries too hard, but to speak and he will bare with it. After a while, it seems like he wants to guide Judas to become the 13th disciple. I didn’t really understand that because the way Jesus speaks, it seems like he’s amused by what the disciples are saying but judging them at the same time. So I wouldn’t really see why he would want to help them. I also didn’t really understand the end as to why the people gave Judas money for being a disciple. I feel like I might be missing a bigger picture with this text but I’ve read it over a couple of times and I’m still not getting it. I might come back on here tomorrow after my class and update if I’ve learned anything new.
