An early Christian work, the gospel of Mary Magdala highlights the communication between Jesus and his apostles including Mary, the one apostle who understood this words and bested the other apostles in understanding. The story shows the disgruntled male apostles struggle to understand why a women was right in the interpretation of Jesus’ words. This text is very interesting as it has been suppressed or at the least forgotten as mainstream sects of christianity created a much more uniform story. This leads the reader to believe that Christianity, at its roots was a heavily debated topic and varied widely scholar to scholar. This raises the question of the role of women during this early period of monotheistic religions and christianity. Mary in this story plays a pivotal role in delivering the messages of Jesus. She is the guidance in a time of darkness for the death of Jesus. There is an epiphany that occurs when the apostles realize that Mary is not speaking of the past but rather is speaking through the present words of Jesus. this now creates a problem as it is hard for the apostles to decipher wether to take the word of Mary, or to question her. as the reader you gain a sense of awareness that the story is trying to get across Separation and alienation and that these ideas only injure the relationships we build with others and thus the apostles realize that the teachings of Jesus would not support making our own people advisories, and so to conclude The importance of Marys words is the idea of communication and community. This lost text was not present in the mainstream for so long, that ideas such as these have been lost all together. only recently in the history of mankind have we shed light on the alternate ideals of old christianity.
