I have always been captivated by the Nazi party. They represent perhaps the most vile group in all of human history, their list of crimes not limited to the systematic extermination of human beings. While I understand why Mein Kampf was banned in many different regions, I personally believe that it is extremely useful work. In order to prevent a repeat of the Nazi ideology and actions, we need to understand what they stood for. We need to know their policies, their motivations, and their techniques of persuasion. What could be more useful than Hitler’s ridiculous manifesto, which became a pillar of Nazi ideology and was written by the party leader himself? The writing on the page is what Hitler believed, and in turn, he was able to convince others to believe it as well. The words in the text are terrifying in their relevance to issues today. Hitler references higher education, immigration, domination by the wealthy (which he almost always references as the Jewish people), education, and the size of the government. He buried all of this in arguments about the importance of race and his maniacal argument that the Jewish people are controlling and defiling the world. His statements are nearly always terrifying and extreme. The passage that was most chilling to me was when he described what he would do in a hypothetical war between Germany and other nations in Europe. A true premonition.
